The Game Awards heeft officieel de volledige lijst met genomineerden voor 2025 gedropt, en daarmee trappen ze één van de — zo niet dé — meest gehypte events van het jaar af voor zowel spelers als studios. Het was echt een topjaar qua releases, niet alleen voor grote franchises zoals Silent Hill, Battlefield, Call of Duty en Death Stranding, maar ook voor kleinere studios die flink indruk hebben gemaakt. Sterker nog, veel van die kleinere titels vormen een groot deel van de nominaties dankzij games zoals Clair Obscur Expedition 33, Hollow Knight Silksong en Hades 2.
The Game Awards 2025 Nominees
Since het begin van 2025 wordt er non-stop geluld over The Game Awards, vooral over de Game of the Year. En zoals velen al voorspelden, zijn Clair Obscur Expedition 33 en Hollow Knight Silksong in een heleboel categorieën beland.
Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 pakt dit jaar de spotlight met maar liefst 12 nominaties, waaronder Game of the Year, Best Narrative en drie aparte Best Performance-nominaties. Het is extra indrukwekkend als je bedenkt hoe klein het core team eigenlijk is. En tja, AstroBot (ook al zit Sony erachter) was ook zo’n “underdog”.
De concurrentie is pittig, met grote titels als Death Stranding 2, Donkey Kong Bananza, Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, en de geliefde indie-sequels Hollow Knight: Silksong en Hades 2. Al deze games stonden hoog in de voorspellingen, wat natuurlijk veel fans blij maakt. Helaas voor de fans van South of Midnight — ook een grote voorspelling — die heeft de GOTY-shortlist niet gehaald, al kreeg het wel 2 nominaties in andere categorieën.
Buiten de GOTY om zijn veel spelers ook erg benieuwd wie de Best Multiplayer-award gaat pakken. COD is er dan wel niet bij, maar het blijft een spannende strijd tussen Arc Raiders, Battlefield 6, Elden Ring Nightreign, Peak en Split Fiction.
The Game Awards 2025 worden live uitgezonden op 11 december om 4:30PM PT / 7:30PM ET, of op 12 december om 12:30AM GMT / 1:30AM CET. Stemmen kan nu al via de officiële The Game Awards website.
